Lowcountry Choices for Earth-friendly Living
All South Carolina Grown
One of mine has been a stronger embrace of localism, and so goes the blog. More than ever, I’m focusing on the beautiful and bountiful land South Carolina is, and how we can make choices to preserve it. My way? Choosing to go local—finding a personal pathway to improved well-being and reduced earth-impact.
An ear of corn harvested on a Johns Island SC farm is picked at the peak of ripeness and in your hands within hours. It's easy to understand why it would be fresher and tastier than one grown hundreds of miles away that's taken days or weeks to be shipped to a supermarket. And fewer miles on the road also help to shrink our carbon footprint.
As for time spent on the road, I invite you to consider a regional drive-vacation as an alternative to air travel or long hauls. Whether touring a Charleston tea plantation or kayaking the Edisto River, South Carolina is brimming with exciting paths to explore. And again, to shrink the carbon footprint.
I've made it my mission to choose local and talk about it to promote the people who work hard to bring the best of the land to our doorstep. And make the world the better for it.
The lure of sunny slopes lush with fruit-bearing vines is bound to spark wanderlust in the heart of any Lowcountry wine enthusiast.
