A Daily Dose of Touch
I caught this NPR/ To The Best of Our Knowledge interview with Dr. Tiffany Field early in the pandemic, in which she examines the phenomenon of social distancing and its effects on us.
Who knew the simple action of touch or the lack thereof has far reaching ramifications for us as individuals and a society.
In research focusing on the use of alternative therapies with elderly individuals, Field and her colleagues have demonstrated benefits of movement therapy, massage, yoga and tai chi. In the interview, she provides fascinating insight into the chemistry of the skin/ brain connection and strategies for navigating the limitations of Covid-induced distancing.
