Twenty Bag | Aug 25

A lush late-summer harvest in the Aug 25 Twenty Bag! Organic grown sweet corn from Watsonia Farms, baby Italian eggplant, Spartanburg-based Crescent Farm carrots, squash, zucchini, gourmet potatoes, okra, baby belle peppers and (a favorite of mine) CV Honeycrisp apples from our friends at Lively Orchards in Flat Rock, NC—sweet!

Great stuff rolled in from the Carolinas’ upstate regions this week, kicking up an already abundant Bag. Outside of a tart or pie, there’s no better way to showcase the apple than raw when, like these, they’ve been plucked, fresh, from the orchard. Honeycrisps are super sweet and crunchy, a perfect combination for this Waldorf salad recipe from the Food Network Kitchen.

Martha Stewart’s easy succotash recipe pairs the Bag’s corn, baby belles and zucchini with a few aromatics—cooked up in no time, all in one pot!

Farmer Towles’ storage tips: Squash, carrots, corn, eggplant, and peppers in a plastic bag in the fridge. Apples could go in the fridge or on the counter I suppose. Potatoes in a cool dark place in pantry or corner of counter top.
