Community Supported Agriculture
Fill your fridge with fresh, locally grown product by pairing up with a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group that brings a farm’s weekly harvest (practically) to your doorstep. The beauty of joining a CSA is that you’re buying, directly from the farmer, produce that’s fresher and tastier because it’s been small-batch grown and delivered within hours of being picked. All, well within a hundred miles of Charleston—eliminating cross country shipping and the middleman, as well.
For a couple of key reasons, I chose The Twenty Bag from Harleston Towles’ Edisto operation, Rooting Down Farm. The original CSA model offers a season’s worth of farm output to consumers who buy shares in advance. This system provides the farmer with resources to get things growing, and I support it completely.
The Twenty Bag is a hybrid of the original system. It works well for those who are seeking more flexibility when they become a CSA member, providing a weekly, pay-as-you-go offering from the farm you can order, or skip.
